If%20only%20the%20entire%20craft%20was%20built%20with%20the%20heavy%20quality%20plastic%20of%20the%20deck.%20For%20those%20who%20don%u2019t%20own%20it%2C%20the%20plastic%20is%20like%20that%20of%20Bristle%20Blocks%20or%20totters%u2019%20play%20toys%20or%20play%20houses.%0A%0AOriginal%20Image%20by%20Hasbro%2C%201985.%0A%0AI%20own%20so%20few%20vintage%20Joe%20boxes%20that%20I%u2019m%20pretty%20happy%20when%20I%20get%20to%20show%20one%20of%20my%20own.%0A%0AI%20turned%20down%20an%20offer%20of%20the%20carrier%20in%20the%20spring%20of%201985.%20This%20will%20require%20a%20bit%20of%20an%20explanation.%0A%0AFor%20those%20of%20you%20who%20were%20not%20into%20Joe%20until%201985%2C%20or%20later%2C%20for%20those%20of%20you%20were%20not%20even%20born%20yet%2C%20allow%20me%20set%20the%20stage.%20In%20the%20spring%20of%201985%20the%20release%20of%20new%20Joes%20was%20impossible%20to%20find%21%20%20Not%20specific%20figures%2C%20like%20the%20Storm%20Shadow%2C%20Firefly%2C%20or%20Ripcord%20of%20the%20year%20before%2C%20but%20the%20entire%20line%20would%20evaporate%20the%20minute%20it%20was%20pulled%20out%20of%20the%20stock%20room.%20For%20those%20of%20us%20who%20were%20into%20Joe%20from%20the%20initial%20line%20up%20in%201982%20this%20was%20particularly%20distressing.%0A%0AThe%20toy%20line%20and%20comic%20title%20had%20been%20building%20momentum%20each%20year%20since%20it%27s%20cardinal%20run%20in%201982.%20Coming%20off%20the%20amazing%20line%20of%201984%20any%20toy%20line%20would%20have%20done%20well.%20But%20in%201985%20something%20was%20different.%20For%20the%20first%20time%2C%20the%20second%20animated%20mini%20series-%20The%20Revenge%20if%20Cobra%2C%20featured%20characters%20that%20had%20yet%20released.%20This%20made%20these%20characters%20very%20popular%20prior%20to%20their%20arrival.%20In%20the%20spring%20of%201985%20the%20demand%20was%20ravenous.%20%20%20%20%20%20%0A%0AMy%20father%2C%20coming%20from%20a%20long%20line%20of%20vets%2C%20always%20encouraged%20me%20to%20collectJoes.%20The%20old%20man%20saw%20the%20disappointment%20in%20my%20eyes%20when%20I%27d%20come%20home%20from%20a%20birthday%20party%20and%20some%20kid%20from%20school%20got%20the%20entire%2085%20line%20up%20of%20figures.%20He%20offered%20to%20take%20me%20into%20the%20city%20with%20him%20one%20day%20to%20a%20place%20he%20was%20sure%20would%20have%20them.%20What%20my%20dad%20failed%20to%20realize%20was%20that%20FAO%20Schwartz%20was%20a%20big%20ticket%20item%20toy%20store%20for%20the%20Manhattan%20elite.%20When%20we%20got%20to%20the%202nd%20floor%2C%20just%20past%20the%20escalators%20we%20saw%20the%20Flagg%20set%20up%20on%20display.%20Sadly%20that%20was%20the%20only%20Joe%20item%20that%20they%20carried%21%20As%20if%20to%20taunt%20me%20further%2C%20the%20deck%20of%20the%20massive%20ship%20featured%20all%20of%20the%20figures%20that%20I%20could%20no%20find%2C%20set%20up%20in%20action%20poses.%20%0A%0AI%20can%20still%20remember%20standing%20there%2C%20glaring%20at%20those%20white%20linoleum%20tiles%20in%20the%20lane%20by%20where%20the%20bathrooms%20were.%20My%20hackles%20were%20up%2C%20my%20jaw%20clenched%2C%20fists%20balled%2C%20and%20I%20could%20feel%20the%20heat%20of%20rage%20welling%20up%20in%20my%20face.%20My%20poor%20dad%20felt%20terrible%20for%20me.%20He%20offered%20to%20get%20me%20the%20Flagg%20right%20then%20and%20there.%20%20God%20bless%20him.%20In%20my%20indigence%20I%20said%2C%20%26quot%3BNo.%20It%27s%20too%20big%26quot%3B%20But%2C%20in%20my%20heart%2C%20I%20said%20%u201CFuck%20GI%20Joe%21%u201C%0A%0AHasbro%20stepped%20up.%20Eventually%20I%20found%20all%20of%20the%2085%20figures%20and%20harbor%20many%20fond%20memories%20of%20bringing%20most%20of%20them%20home.%20Some%20I%20bought%2C%20others%20I%20left%20on%20the%20pegs%20but%20I%20got%20every%20figure%20that%20I%20wanted.%20But%20I%20never%20went%20back%20to%20get%20that%20Flagg.%0A%0AAs%20of%20today%2C%20that%27s%20all%20behind%20me%20now.%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20
