As%20a%20child%2C%20my%20favourite%20board%20game%20was%20Monopoly.%20%20I%20think%20I%20loved%20it%20because%20it%20listed%20so%20many%20of%20the%20places%20that%20I%20knew%20around%20London.%20%20I%20also%20loved%20all%20the%20bright%20colours%20for%20the%20properties%2C%20and%20the%20pink%20Community%20Chest%20cards%20with%20their%20funny%20Art%20Deco%20cartoons%20on%20it.%20%20I%20know%20that%20my%20maternal%20Grandmother%20and%20I%20would%20always%20try%20and%20buy%20Park%20Lane%20and%20Mayfair%20and%20my%20maternal%20Grandfather%20liked%20Pall%20Mall%2C%20Whitehall%20and%20the%20Angel%20Islington%2C%20the%20latter%20because%20he%20lived%20in%20the%20Islington%20before%20the%20Second%20World%20War.%20%20I%20certainly%20never%20saw%20it%20in%20the%20way%20that%20adults%20do%20as%20you%20try%20and%20monopolise%20the%20London%20property%20Market%20and%20become%20the%20landlord%20king%20or%20queen%21%20%20The%20set%20I%20played%20on%20was%20pre-war%20Waddington%u2019s%201936%20set%2C%20and%20I%20remember%20the%20Bakelite%20tokens%20we%20played%20with.%20%20Unlike%20the%20set%20produced%20today%20Old%20Kent%20Road%20and%20Whitechapel%20Road%20were%20violet%20rather%20than%20brown%2C%20and%20Pall%20Mall%2C%20Whitehall%20and%20Northumberland%20Avenue%20were%20purple%20rather%20than%20pink.%20%20You%20will%20notice%20that%20I%20have%20replicated%20the%20violet%20colour%20of%20Old%20Kent%20Road%20and%20Whitechapel%20Road%20on%20my%20board.%0A%0ASadly%2C%20my%20uncle%20took%20our%20Monopoly%20set%20at%20some%20stage%20and%20lost%20it%2C%20so%20this%20photo%20is%20my%20recreation%20using%20some%20of%20my%20miniatures%20collection%2C%20including%20a%20Heidi%20Ott%20top%20hat%20as%20a%20token%2C%20an%20the%201%3A12%20miniature%20red%20stilettos%20that%20I%20recently%20acquired%20from%20England.%20%20It%20appears%20that%20they%20have%20landed%20on%20my%20favourite%3A%20Mayfair%20where%20there%20is%20a%20very%20grand%20Bendigo%20Pottery%20hotel.%20%20Time%20to%20pay%20your%20rent%20please%21%0A%0AThis%20year%20the%20FFF+%20Group%20have%20decided%20to%20have%20a%20weekly%20challenge%20called%20%u201CSnap%20Happy%u201D.%20%20A%20different%20theme%20chosen%20by%20a%20member%20of%20the%20group%20each%20week%2C%20and%20the%20image%20is%20to%20be%20posted%20on%20the%20Monday%20of%20the%20week.%0A%0AThis%20week%20the%20theme%2C%20%u201Cgames%u201D%20was%20chosen%20by%20David%2C%20%3Ca%20href%3D%27/photos/108755156@N05/%27%3EDaveSPN%3C/a%3E.%20%0A%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%0AThe%20locations%20on%20the%20standard%20British%20version%20of%20the%20board%20game%20Monopoly%20are%20set%20in%20London%20and%20were%20selected%20in%201935%20by%20Victor%20Watson%2C%20managing%20director%20of%20John%20Waddington%20Limited.%20Victor%20became%20interested%20in%20the%20board%20game%20after%20his%20son%20Norman%20had%20tried%20the%20Parker%20Brothers%20original%20US%20version%20and%20recommended%20the%20company%20produce%20a%20board%20for%20the%20domestic%20market.%20%20He%20took%20his%20secretary%20Marjory%20Phillips%20on%20a%20day-trip%20from%20the%20head%20offices%20in%20Leeds%20to%20London%20and%20the%20pair%20looked%20for%20suitable%20locations%20to%20use.%20%20The%20London%20version%20of%20the%20game%20was%20successful%2C%20and%20in%201936%20it%20was%20exported%20to%20Continental%20Europe%2C%20Australia%2C%20New%20Zealand%20and%20South%20Africa%2C%20becoming%20the%20de%20facto%20standard%20board%20in%20the%20British%20Commonwealth.%20%20
