.%0AA%20couple%20weeks%20ago%20my%20Flickr%20friend%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.flickr.com/photos/142515628@N03/%22%3ERita%3C/a%3E%20had%20posted%20a%20detail%20of%20Reynaldo%20%28Sonny%29%20Rivera%27s%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.flickr.com/photos/142515628@N03/51033434791/in/dateposted/%22%3ELa%20Curandera%3C/a%3E%2C%20a%20relief%20sculpture%20at%20the%20botanic%20gardens.%0A%0AThat%20work%20is%20a%20favorite%20of%20mine%20and%20I%27ve%20posted%20quite%20a%20few%20images%20of%20it%20here%20at%20Flickr%20over%20the%20years.%0A%0AThat%20got%20me%20thinking%20about%20another%20work%20of%20his%2C%20a%20collaboration%20with%20another%20amazing%20artist%2C%20Betty%20Sabo.%20Together%2C%20they%20sculpted%20a%20multi-piece%20work%20titled%2C%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.cabq.gov/artsculture/albuquerque-museum/exhibitions/sculpture-garden-exhibition/cuarto-centenario/la-jornada%22%20rel%3D%22noreferrer%20nofollow%22%3ELa%20Jornada%3C/a%3E%2C%20The%20Journey.%20Clicking%20on%20this%20link%20will%20bring%20one%20to%20the%20city%20of%20Albuquerque%27s%20web%20page%20about%20it.%20It%20is/was%20on%20the%20grounds%20of%20the%20Albuquerque%20Museum.%0A%0AA%20quote%20from%20that%20page%3A%0A%26quot%3BLa%20Jornada%20%28The%20Journey%29%20is%20part%20of%20the%20Cuarto%20Centenario%20project%20which%20which%20commissioned%20artists%20Betty%20Sabo%2C%20Sonny%20Rivera%2C%20and%20Nora%20Naranjo-Morse%20to%20create%20an%20artwork%20to%20commemorate%20400%20years%20since%20the%20arrival%20of%20the%20Spanish%20settlers%20and%20their%20families%20in%20what%20is%20now%20New%20Mexico.%20Sabo%20and%20Rivera%20worked%20together%20to%20create%20depictions%20of%20a%20few%20of%20the%20original%20400%20men%20%28130%20of%20whom%20brought%20families%29%2C%2083%20wagons%20and%20carts%2C%20and%20over%207%2C000%20stock%20animals%20who%20arrived%20in%20New%20Mexico%20in%201598.%0A%0ARivera%20sculpted%20O%F1ate%2C%20an%20Indigenous%20guide%2C%20soldiers%2C%20cattle%2C%20horses%2C%20oxen%2C%20and%20the%20carreta%20%28ox-drawn%20cart%29%20with%20people%20struggling%20to%20push%20it%20up%20the%20hill.%20Sabo%20sculpted%20the%20women%2C%20children%2C%20sheepherders%2C%20Churro%20sheep%2C%20goat%2C%20donkey%2C%20pig%2C%20baby%2C%20and%20priest%20in%20the%20group.%20The%20hardship%20of%20the%20journey%20is%20evident%20in%20many%20of%20the%20faces%20and%20bodies%20of%20the%20statues.%20Some%20New%20Mexicans%20can%20trace%20their%20lineage%20to%20the%20original%20families%20that%20settled%20in%20the%20area.%20O%F1ate%20remains%20a%20controversial%20figure%20in%20New%20Mexico.%20In%201608%2C%20he%20was%20removed%20from%20power%20and%20in%201614%2C%20was%20convicted%20for%20his%20abuse%20of%20power%20and%20mistreatment%20of%20the%20people%20of%20Acoma%20Pueblo.%26quot%3B%0A%0ALast%20year%20saw%20the%20rise%20of%20public%20indignation%20regarding%20Confederate%20statues%2C%20and%20that%20spread%20to%20here%20with%20protests%20directed%20at%20statues%20of%20Conquistadors%20and%20others%20who%20perpetrated%20violence%20against%20indigenous%20peoples.%20In%20June%20there%20were%20protests%20and%20counter%20protests.%20Protestors%20attempted%20to%20pull%20down%20O%F1ate.%20A%20man%20was%20shot.%0A%0AThe%20statue%20of%20O%F1ate%20was%20removed.%20It%27s%20funny%2C%20but%20in%20all%20the%20photos%20I%27ve%20shot%20of%20this%20work%2C%20I%20never%20got%20a%20shot%20of%20his%20statue.%20I%20was%20always%20drawn%20to%20the%20other%20parts%20of%20this%20outstanding%20work.%0A%0AI%20don%27t%20know%20if%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20work%20is%20still%20present.%20I%20came%20across%20an%20editorial%20talking%20about%20the%20Albuquerque%20Museum%20Board%20of%20Trustees%20calling%20for%20the%20removal%20of%20the%20La%20Jornada%20sculpture.%0A%0AI%27ll%20find%20out%20tomorrow%20as%20I%27ve%20an%20appointment%20to%20go%20to%20the%20botanic%20gardens%20downtown%20in%20the%20morning.%0A%0AMeanwhile%2C%20Happy%20Donnerstagsmonochrom...
