Ever%20since%20I%20filmed%20the%20underwater%20time-lapse%20DownUnder%20back%20in%202017%2C%20I%u2019ve%20been%20toying%20with%20the%20idea%20of%20bringing%20this%20into%20the%20astro%20world%20and%20photographing%20and%20time-lapsing%20both%20the%20underwater%20environment%20and%20night%20sky%20in%20one%20shot.%20Fortunately%20where%20I%20live%20in%20Wellington%2C%20New%20Zealand%2C%20is%20the%20perfect%20location%20for%20this%20with%20lots%20of%20tidal%20rock%20pools%20full%20of%20life%20under%20a%20dark%20night%20sky.%0A%0ABut%20it%20hasn%u2019t%20been%20an%20easy%20shot%20to%20pull%20off%20-%20in%20fact%20this%20would%20have%20to%20be%20my%20most%20challenging%20astro%20photos%20to%20date.%20I%u2019ve%20been%20attempting%20underwater%20asto%20shots%20since%20early%202020%2C%20but%20it%u2019s%20taken%20me%20over%20a%20year%20to%20perfect%20a%20technique%20for%20shooting%20them.%20Each%20shot%20takes%20around%2040%20minutes%20to%20shoot%2C%20and%20you%20not%20only%20need%20a%20perfect%20night%20sky%2C%20but%20also%20have%20favorable%20locations%2C%20and%20timing%20with%20the%20tides%20can%20also%20be%20tricky.%20The%20other%20challenge%20is%20lighting%20your%20underwater%20scene%2C%20as%20any%20natural%20light%20diminishes%20considerably%20once%20it%20passes%20through%20water%2C%20and%20then%20there%u2019s%20also%20the%20technique%20of%20focus%20stacking%20to%20get%20a%20sharp%20image%20from%20your%20foreground%20elements%20right%20through%20to%20the%20night%20sky%2C%20and%20I%u2019m%20also%20shooting%20multiple%20shots%20each%20focus%20step%20for%20stacking%20to%20help%20with%20image%20quality%20and%20noise%20reduction.%0A%0ASo%20after%20many%20failed%20attempts%2C%20I%u2019m%20happy%20to%20have%20finally%20pulled%20an%20under/over%20water%20astro%20shot%20that%20I%u2019m%20finally%20happy%20with.%20The%20next%20challenge%20%28which%20I%u2019ve%20already%20attempted%20and%20failed%20many%20times%29%20is%20an%20under/over%20water%20astro%20time-lapse.%0A%0AIn%20case%20you%u2019re%20interested%20in%20the%20original%20DownUnder%20time-lapse%20I%20shot%2C%20you%20can%20find%20that%20here%3A%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//youtu.be/lmYkjTXXwdE%22%20rel%3D%22noreferrer%20nofollow%22%3Eyoutu.be/lmYkjTXXwdE%3C/a%3E
