%20of%20a%2072%20or%2073%20year%20old%20baseball%20which%20he%20has%20owned%20for%20%u201Cthree%20score%20and%20ten%u201D%20of%20them.%20%20He%20lives%20in%20Berlin.%20%20Now%2C%20if%20you%20figure%20out%20which%20of%20these%20states/country%20he%20lives%20in%20you%20are%20a%20step%20closer%20to%20knowning%20his%20identity.%20%20%20The%20list%20is%3A%20%20Germany%2C%20Vermont%2C%20Texas%2C%20North%20Dakota%2C%20Kansas%2C%20Indiana%2C%20Illinois%2C%20Georgia%2C%20New%20Jersey%2C%20Ohio%2C%20Kentucky%2C%20Wisconsin%20and%20West%20Virginia.%0A%0ABeing%20vague%20as%20to%20identity%20is%20to%20prevent%20the%20owner%2C%20of%20the%20aforementioned%20baseball%2C%20being%20inundated%20by%20inquiries%20and%20offers%20%u201Cto%20beat%20him%20out%u201D%20of%20something%20he%20has%20treasured%20over%20the%20years.%20%20But%2C%20as%20with%20anything%20when%20a%20person%20reaches%20nine%20decades%20on%20earth%20it%20is%20time%20to%20look%20at%20things%20with%20a%20different%20perspective.%0A%0AThere%20were%20a%20number%20of%20e-mails%20that%20went%20between%20Berlin%20and%20Columbia%2C%20Mo.%20and%20early%20this%20week%20the%20baseball%20arrived%20at%20my%20home.%20%20In%20opening%2C%20it%20was%20found%20to%20be%20in%20mint%20condition.%20%20Obviously%2C%20the%20baseball%20is%20legitimate.%20%20The%20baseball%20was%20also%20viewed%20by%20a%20serious%20baseball%20collector%20and%20he%20too%20was%20impressed%20by%20the%20condition%20and%20obvious%20provenance%20of%20the%20ball.%0A%0AAfter%20looking%20at%20the%20ball%20the%20owner%20was%20contacted%20and%20informed%20that%20the%20ball%20was%20repacked%20and%20being%20sent%20home%20to%20Berlin%20to%20be%20placed%20back%20in%20a%20tube%20sock%20in%20the%20owners%20hiding%20place.%20%20He%20asked%20if%20I%20had%20any%20idea%20as%20to%20the%20value%20of%20the%20baseball%20and%20that%20is%20a%20subject%20on%20which%20this%20old%20guy%20is%20totally%20ignorant.%0A%0AIn%20attempting%20to%20assist%20the%20owner%20of%20the%20baseball%20this%20message%20was%20shared.%20%20%u201CWhat%20I%20would%20do%20for%20you%2C%20if%20you%20like%2C%20is%20to%20take%20photos%20of%20that%20ball%20and%20then%20post%20them%20where%20a%20whole%20bunch%20of%20real%20collectors%20would%20see%20them.%20%20I%20would%20keep%20your%20name%20out%20of%20it%20and%20just%20see%20what%20the%20offers%20might%20be.%20%20By%20that%20time%20the%20ball%20will%20be%20in%20your%20possession%20and%20I%20would%20share%20the%20names%20with%20you%20of%20those%20interested.%20%20This%20is%20being%20written%20about%20a%20half%20hour%20later%20than%20the%20first%20paragraph.%20%20%20%20My%20contact%20is%20a%20big%20collector%20or%20was.%20%20So%2C%20he%20has%20a%20good%20idea%20of%20the%20market%20value%20of%20such%20things%20He%20came%20by%20and%20he%20looked%20at%20the%20ball.%20%20He%20also%20had%20some%20images%20of%20Cardinal%20signed%20baseballs%20from%201946-49.%20%20Here%20are%20a%20few%20of%20his%20comments%3A%0A%0A1.%20%20The%20ball%20is%20in%20great%20condition.%20%20He%20said%20it%20was%20almost%20too%20good%20to%20believe.%0A2.%20%20He%20noted%20the%20%26quot%3BS%26quot%3B%20in%20Stan%20Musial%27s%20first%20name%20was%20in%20cursive%20which%20is%20rare.%20%20However%2C%20he%20said%20anyone%20forging%20that%20ball%20would%20have%20used%20the%20printed%20%26quot%3BS%26quot%3B.%20%20We%20did%20find%20some%20evidence%20where%20Musial%20signed%20in%20cursive.%20%20One%20example%20was%20on%20a%20Wheaties%20card%20in%201951.%0A3.%20%20We%20found%20evidence%20of%20Cardinal%20baseballs%20from%20that%20era%20that%20carried%20the%20full%20roster%20and%20one%20site%20had%20an%20asking%20price%20of%20%243900.%20%20My%20contact%20said%20partially%20signed%20team%20balls%20were%20far%20less%20valuable%20than%20the%20ones%20with%20the%20full%20roster%20of%20signatures%0A4.%20%20Assuming%20the%20ball%20is%20legitimate%2C%20which%20we%20both%20believe%20it%20is%2C%20my%20friend%20said%20it%20probably%20has%20a%20value%20of%20%24500%20up%20to%20%24900.%20%20It%20just%20depends%20on%20how%20badly%20someone%20wants%20it.%0A5.%20He%20says%20the%20ball%20is%20either%20from%201947%20or%201948.%20%20I%20hope%20this%20helps%20a%20little.%u201D%0A%0AAt%20this%20juncture%20the%20owner%20of%20the%20baseball%20asked%20me%20to%20share%20it%20with%20the%20%u201Cvast%u201D%20distribution%20audience%20of%20this%20report.%20%20He%20wanted%20me%20to%20use%20the%20word%20%u201Creadership%u201D%20but%20he%20was%20informed%20that%20would%20be%20presumption%20on%20my%20part.%20%20The%20reason%20I%20used%20that%20term%20is%20that%20there%20wasn%u2019t%20enough%20response%20from%20the%20last%20report%20to%20provide%20evidence%20it%20ever%20made%20it%20past%20the%20city%20limits%20of%20the%20town%20in%20which%20it%20was%20prepared.%0A%0AWhat%20has%20been%20worked%20out%20with%20the%20owner%20of%20the%201947%20or%201948%20St.%20Louis%20Cardinal%20baseball%20is%20simple.%20%20If%20any%20reader%20is%20interested%20in%20pursuing%20this%20matter%20they%20should%
