Cedar%20Lakes%20Woods%20%26amp%3B%20Gardens%20was%20founded%20by%20Dr.%20Raymond%20Webber%20and%20opened%20for%20public%20enjoyment%20in%20January%20of%202014.%20The%20creation%20of%20the%20gardens%20began%20over%2027%20years%20ago%20when%20Ray%20discovered%20the%20100+%20year%20old%20retired%20lime%20rock%20quarry%20in%201991.%20%28Over%20100%20years%20ago%2C%20miners%20were%20harvesting%20lime%20rock%20from%20the%20property%20to%20create%20the%20foundation%20of%20Highway%2027%29.%20In%201991%2C%20Ray%20found%20that%20the%20property%20had%20been%20abandoned%20long%20ago%2C%20and%20it%20now%20was%20essentially%20a%20polluted%20swamp.%20%20He%20purchased%20the%20property%20for%20his%20own%20private%20use%2C%20initially%20intending%20to%20use%20the%20quarry%20%20as%20a%20giant%20fishing%20pond.%20%20He%20dug%20out%20what%20was%20left%20behind%2C%20including%20old%20mining%20remnants%2C%20and%20began%20to%20transform%20the%20old%2C%20polluted%2C%20swampy%20quarry.%20Rock%20by%20rock%2C%20each%20rolled%20in%20by%20wheelbarrows%20and%20strategically%20placed%20by%20human%20hands%2C%20the%20walkways%20and%20walls%20of%20the%20gardens%20were%20created.%20With%20a%20small%20team%20of%20workers%2C%20he%20created%20different%20islands%20throughout%20the%20quarry%2C%20concrete%20walkways%2C%20separate%20pools%2C%20waterfalls%2C%20pavilions%2C%20gazebos%2C%20and%20bridges%20made%20of%20Brazilian%20walnut.%20%20With%20the%20structures%20now%20intact%2C%20Ray%20took%20up%20gardening%20as%20his%20hobby%20to%20add%20greenery%20to%20his%20creation.%20He%20discovered%20that%20he%20was%20just%20as%20passionate%20for%20gardening%20as%20he%20was%20for%20fishing%2C%20and%20now%20Ray%20is%20responsible%20for%20one%20of%20the%20most%20unique%20botanical%20creations%20you%27ll%20ever%20see.%u200B%20In%202014%2C%20Ray%20created%20the%20501%28c%29%283%29%20non-profit%20Cedar%20Lakes%20Woods%20and%20Gardens%2C%20Inc.%20He%20donated%20the%20entire%2020-acre%20botanical%20garden%20to%20the%20non-profit%2C%20and%20opened%20it%20to%20the%20public.%20He%20then%20donated%20the%20entire%2064-acre%20surrounding%20woodlands%20to%20Conservation%20Florida%20in%20order%20to%20keep%20them%20protected%20in%20the%20future.%20While%20the%20property%20has%20strayed%20far%20from%20it%27s%20original%20purpose%2C%20Ray%20is%20so%20happy%20to%20see%20the%20property%20growing%20and%20being%20enjoyed%20by%20so%20many%20people.%0A%0AThe%20quarry%20walls%20are%20lined%20with%20concrete%20and%20rock%20planters%2C%20filled%20with%20hundreds%20of%20species%20of%20plants%20and%20flowers.%20The%20surrounding%20trees%20and%20the%20topography%20of%20the%20quarry%20allow%20temperate%20and%20semitropical%20plants%20to%20flourish%20year%20round.%20Birds%20of%20prey%2C%20owls%2C%20doves%2C%20numerous%20songbirds%2C%20butterflies%2C%20turtles%2C%20frogs%2C%20and%20other%20wildlife%20may%20be%20encountered%20along%20the%20trail.%20Cedar%20Lakes%20Woods%20%26amp%3B%20Gardens%20is%20also%20home%20to%20domesticated%20animal%20friends%20including%20many%20cats%2C%20a%20black%20english%20cocker%20spaniel%20named%20April%2C%20a%20swan%20named%20Guinivere%2C%20several%20ducks%2C%20pheasants%2C%20a%20goose%2C%20a%20squirrel%20named%20Delilah%2C%20a%20rose-breasted%20cockatoo%20named%20Rosie%2C%20numerous%20Koi%20fish%2C%20and%20a%20100-pound%20blue%20catfish%20named%20Big%20Ben.%20There%20are%20many%20benches%20and%20picnic%20tables%20throughout%20the%20trails%20to%20allow%20visitors%20to%20sit%20and%20enjoy%20the%20spectacular%20views.%20We%20also%20suggest%20bringing%20a%20picnic%20lunch%20to%20snack%20on%20while%20enjoying%20these%20views.%0A%0AToday%2C%20thanks%20to%20the%20help%20of%20a%20%20few%20staff%20members%20and%20Ray%27s%20dedication%20to%20his%20artistic%20dream%2C%20the%20garden%20continues%20to%20grow%20with%20the%20addition%20of%20new%20garden%20displays%2C%20scenic%20features%2C%20and%20expansion%20of%20education%20programs.%20You%20may%20also%20wander%20though%20our%20surrounding%20woods%20and%20enjoy%20the%20Oaks%2C%20Cedars%2C%20Pines%2C%20Pecans%2C%20Hickories%2C%20and%20Dogwoods%20in%20an%20adjacent%2064%20acre%20nature%20conservation%20easement%20maintained%20by%20%26quot%3BConservation%20Florida.%26quot%3B%0A%0ACredit%20for%20the%20data%20above%20is%20given%20to%20the%20following%20website%3A%0A%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//cedarlakeswoodsandgarden.com/history%22%20rel%3D%22noreferrer%20nofollow%22%3Ecedarlakeswoodsandgarden.com/history%3C/a%3E%0A%0A%A9%20All%20Rights%20Reserved%20-%20you%20may%20not%20use%20this%20image%20in%20any%20form%20without%20my%20prior%20permission.%0A%0A
